L'HOTEL:
Set in a restored 15th century manor house, the rustic Hotel Capela das Artes is situated 200 metres from the Moorish village of Alcantarilha and three kilometres from the nearest beach. The 30 air-conditioned guestrooms feature cool limed walls, terracotta tiled floors, beds carved from Portuguese Chestnut wood and wrought iron chandeliers. All open onto terraces with views to the manor house, village and surrounding vineyards and include clock radios, direct-dial phones and satellite television.
Guests can sunbathe on the furnished outdoor terrace, take a dip in the outdoor pool and sip drinks from the poolside bar. Children can swim safely in their own splash pool. Complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby area, and guests can admire art works and buy souvenirs from the hotel's arts centre, which displays the work of local artists. Travellers can also pay a visit to the historic 1791 on site chapel. Traditional Portuguese dishes are served in the restaurant, accompanied by local wines. Business guests can make use of exhibition space and conference facilities, and drivers will find free parking. Water sports are offered at most of the surrounding beaches, and the nearest shopping centre is about three kilometres away. Guests can also visit Silves, 11 kilometres away, or Albufeira, 18 kilometres away. Faro International Airport is 45 kilometres from the hotel, with an approximate driving time of 30 minutes.
